The man used his cellphone to call for help from a riverbank.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) conducted a helicopter rescue in the Lanaudière region Saturday, after a man fell into the water during a rafting trip.
After taking a spill in the fast-moving waters of Ouareau River at Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, the man tried but was unable to swim back to the raft to join his friends.
From the riverbank, he called for help and was located via his cellphone’s GPS. The SQ sent the helicopter once it was determined that the location was not accessible by land, according to Sgt. Marie-Michèle Moore.
The man was rescued at approximately 5:15 p.m. and returned to the Rawdon area, where he was checked by paramedics. No injuries were reported.
