An argument among a large group of friends in Sydney’s CBD has left one man in hospital after he was hit in the head with a hammer, police say.
A group of about 20 men and women were on Dixon Street in the city just after midnight on Tuesday when a verbal argument turned physical.
One man was allegedly knocked to the ground and then hit in the head with a hammer, before he sought help at a nearby Chinese restaurant.
Police were called to the scene about 12.40am, but the alleged attacker left before officers arrived.
The injured man was treated at the scene before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he remains under observation in a stable condition, a police spokesman said.
A number of witnesses have talked to detectives and officers were looking at nearby CCTV footage, however police are yet to locate the alleged attacker.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the Sydney City police station or Crime Stoppers.
