Williams was reluctant to commit to a Cup campaign yet — at least until the son of Frankel has aimed at his prime mid-season target, the Ascot Gold Cup, where he is likely to clash with last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter.
Master Of Reality had improved considerably for being gelded in the off season, said Williams, and he will now target another good staying race in the Group 3 Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown in May.
«He was first up and will improve on yesterday. He is a good stayer and gelding has made a huge difference to his attitude,» he said.
«We are hoping to go for Ascot, the same path as I did with Order of St George.»
The latter won the Ascot Gold Cup and finished third and fourth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but, despite being entered several times, never came to Australia to run in the Melbourne Cup.
