Hopman Cup canned, expected to be replaced with men’s only event

Hopman Cup has been scrapped after 31 years as Perth’s iconic tennis event.

Earlier this year the event peaked when organisers secured tennis legends Roger Federer and Serena Williams, widely regarded as the greatest players, to play each other in a doubles match watched around the world.

Nine News Perth reports the January competition will be replaced by a men’s only ATP Cup, which will be played across Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, with its finals matches to be played over east.

The Cup is expected to attract more than 100 men from 24 countries who would compete for world ranking points.
