Derailed tram causes peak-hour chaos as over 80,000 try to pack MCG

A derailed tram on Flinders and Spencer streets has sparked peak-hour public transport chaos in Melbourne’s CBD on Thursday evening.

The disruption has blockaded traffic on Flinders Street as the peak-hour commute is coupled with the Richmond versus Collingwood match at the MCG, which kicks off at 7.20pm and is expected to draw a crowd over 80,000.

Tram routes 70 and 75 both service Richmond and have been indefinitely cancelled.

Footy fans are encouraged to either take city loop trains to Jolimont or Richmond stations, or the 48 tram route along Collins Street.
