Daily Poll: Should menstrual products be free at school?

Starting in September, tampons and pads will be available in women’s and universal washrooms in elementary, middle and high schools in New Westminster.

The New Westminster school board passed the motion to install coin-free dispensers in all of its schools during a meeting Tuesday. The cost of installing the free dispensers is estimated at $10,000, while district staff say stocking them will cost about $7000 annually.

The school board is asking the British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) to request that the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance fund all B.C. school districts, to purchase, install and supply free tampon and pad dispensers bathrooms in every school in the province.
