The rumour mill has been full of speculation in recent days about who might succeed Muscat when it is finally confirmed that he is departing.
It is thought Victory will likely plump for a foreign coach, but there have also been stories linking ex-Adelaide boss Marco Kurz with the position.
Kurz, from Germany, did well on much more limited resources in South Australia and was suprisingly dumped by Adelaide’s new owners in March with two months of the season remaining.
Despite that he guided them to within a whisker of the grand final, losing only to Perth Glory in a penalty shootout in the semi-final in WA.
Muscat has been the key figure at the league’s most successful club.
He was the first player signed by Victory’s inaugural coach Ernie Merrick, who valued not just his toughness and playing ability, but his leadership skills.
He has demonstrated them perfectly, leading Victory to two championships as a player and two as a coach.
