Perry, 52, was one of the early breakout stars from 90210 thanks to his role as Dylan McKay, a latter-day James Dean type.
In an attempt to escape typecasting after 90210 ended, Perry sought out roles as different as possible, including playing a preacher in the HBO prison drama Oz in episodes from 2001 and 2002.
In 2016, Perry signed onto the comic-based CW series Riverdale, in which he plays Fred Andrews, a candidate for mayor and father to Archie (KJ Apa).
On Wednesday, Fox announced plans to reunite the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210, its 1990s pop-culture phenomenon, for a six-episode summer event series.
Perry was not set to participate in the reboot though original stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling are returning.
